He is not dead, HE IS ALIVE!
Todays chapter: John 20
The greatest miracle in history. The tomb is empty. Jesus has risen. What a stunning and dramatic turning point. What a victory over death! What a superior demonstration of God’s power and strength! Death came to life. Disgrace and mockery turned into celebration and victory!
Throughout chapter 20, we read about Jesus’ immediate family and followers experience around the resurrection and the empty tomb. Some of them actually had a hard time believing that Jesus was resurrected, and Jesus shows the disciples both his hands and side. Thomas needed to physically touch Jesus nail-scarred hands to really comprehend this truth.
We read in verse 21: «Peace be with you ,! As the Father has sent me, I send you«. And in the following verse, Jesus breathes on his disciples and gives them the Holy Spirit to equip them to complete the mission he has sent them on.
Jesus gives the disciples the Holy Spirit as the spirit of life which is also described in Romans 8: 1-2. This spirit makes us free from sin and death and its domination over us.
Jesus sets no requirements or conditions, the only thing he says is RECEIVE! And the disciples are born again by the work of the Holy Spirit . This new birth symbolizes three different things:
- It gives life and fellowship with God (John 14: 6)
- We experience a new perspective and opportunity to see the kingdom of God (Jn 3.3)
- The word of God becomes clear, our faith comes alive and we are transformed into a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Jesus breathed life into his own and empowered them in this way to complete the mission that was given them. The fact that Jesus breathed life into them, gave them unlimited access to the Holy Spirits fullness and wisdom, and it empowered them and totally changed their base for further ministry.
Today the Holy spirit is available to you and me.
Ephesians 1: 18-20 underlines it by saying that the same power that raised Jesus from death, lives in us.
RECEIVE! Let the Holy Spirit fill you. Let Jesus’ nail-scarred hands touch you and fill you up! He is not dead! He’s alive!!!
Can´t wait to celebrate Jesus with you in church tomorrow! Come with expectation!!!
