Todays vers: Mark 10:32-51
Today’s scripture is packed with revelations about Jesus, His kindness and His wisdom. So, where do we begin?
In the beginning of these verses, we can clearly see that Jesus is speaking openly about how He will soon be surrendered to the high priest for them to mock Him, flog Him, spit on Him and finally take his life. But on the third day, He will resurrect. Still, his disciples do not seem to understand this. We also see this clearly in the disciples’ lack of understanding concerning Jesus arrest and in how they react to His death.
The disciples are too focused on their own positions. They are even bold enough to answer “We are able” when Jesus asks if they are able to drink His cup and to be baptized with the baptism with which He is baptized.
We may even feel a bit annoyed by this – how can they be so rude. However, in the next verse Jesus brings an amazing revelation of His work of salvation – that what He does, He is doing in their place.
He says: “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
We know that Jesus is referring to His death and resurrection here – His work of salvation. And that by receiving Jesus as our saviour and to be baptised, we identify completely with what Jesus did for us – and that Jesus also sees it in this way. What He did, we did. He died on the cross – so did we, with Him. He rose again, so did we whilw we were born again by The Holy Spirit.
Finally we can read about the blind man Bartimaeus. It is not really a name, it simply means ‘Son of Timaeus’. He calls for Jesus and run towards Him. Jesus asks him what he may do for Him – which may be quite obvious. Does He not understand that Bartimaes wants the ability to see? But Jesus gets Bartimaeus to speak it out. He speaks his prayer to Jesus out loud. We know that the bible says in Romans 10:6 that faith SPEAKS! So when you pray for something, begin to speak it out loud to Jesus. Say it with your own words, because faith speaks. And what does Jesus say? Your faith has healed you. And he received His sight back!.
Words for today:
2 Cor 4:13
Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak.
Have a blessed day:
