Todays verse: Mark 11:1-18

Jesus confidence in his authority and identity

This is a longer chapter with many different themes. Today we are going to focus on the story about the fig tree.

Jesus was hunger on his way to Bethany and saw a fig tree on the road in front of him. When we got there to pick the fruit and found none he cursed the tree and later in this chapter Peter came to Jesus telling him the tree had withered and died.

Jesus takes this opportunity to teach about faith. The words we use on good days and on hard days is a mirror of our faith. Maybe you are in a difficult situation when it comes to you finances, do you speak more about the problems than about the faith you have to see God take you out of this situation?

Maybe you can have health challenges, what is your focus in the challenge? Maybe you have some challenges in your relationships, how do we express this in our lives? Sickness and problems can speak to us, but what do we say back to them?

Jesus spoke death over the fig tree that didn’t give him food. Situations will always speak to us but we can do what Jesus did and speak back to them with the authority we have been given in Christ Jesus.

No matter what situation you face you can speak out:

  • “I am more than a conquer with Christ Jesus”
  • “By your stripes Jesus I am healed”
  • “Jesus You are my healer and my provider”

When we speak out in faith our circumstances will change.

Jesus spoke death over the fig tree and it happened. We have the same power when it comes to the challenges we face in life.

2 Corinthians 4: 13 It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak.
